MOTUS are three passionate and creative musicians from Hamburg, Germany. They describe their music as ElektroPopKultur. Arne is the frontman and singer, whose voice has become an essential trademark of MOTUS. With his unique style, ranging from powerful rock to lyrical, melancholic melodies, Guitarist Robin adds elemental colours the the band’s sound. Rhythm and groove are in the hands of Drummer Nils, who gives the beat with nonchalant certainty.
The “female” part in the band is taken by the synthesizers and sequencers, which make up the very special sound of MOTUS. The musical spectrum ranges from gentle ballads and groovy clubsounds to straight poprock.
MOTUS was founded in summer 2006 as a small electro-project. The initial members were Mike on keyboards and Arne as singer. After the first few sessions at their small homestudio, it was clear, that there was much room for more, so they started writing their first songs. Trying to solve issues of connecting electropop and lyrics homogenous, was an incentive and a fountain of inspiration. Soon they had a repertory of 7 songs ready and so, they played their first few gigs and started to search for a drummer. Nils joined MOTUS end of 2007.
Together, they optimized and extended the electronic line-up to fit the drums. But after a few shows, a heavy setback hit the young trio. Mike announced in summer 2008, to leave MOTUS due to personal motives. Nonetheless, Arne and Nils had faith in their music and searched for a replacement. It was autumn, when Robin joined MOTUS to fill the gap. His creative input influences the sound of the band in a very special way.
Early 2009, MOTUS were back on stage with new songs, a new set-up with vocals, drums, guitar and the synths and fresh ideas. It was a real zinger. They won the OXMOX Hamburg Bandcontest 2009, had a fair share of radiointerviews and -plays as well as their first cover on a german music magazine. With their blasting live shows and energetic performances, they prove their successes to be justified.
